Dear Friends and Family of Christ,

Veronica and I have been super busy since December with Church Activities, Score, and Los Guido Ministries.  We want to take the time to share some highlights with all of you.      MINISTRY:                                                                                                                              We want to start with thanking the Cedeno Maxam family from Mountain Top Community Church in Birmingham, Alabama.  Through personal initiative, along with some church members and others that are customers from their family business, they collected and donated money to buy food this last Christmas season for all of the families of our youth group ministry in Los Guido.  Thank you so much to all of you that were a part of this amazing project of love that brought so much happiness to our teenagers!

In December we had Orland Park Church from the Chicagoland area go and do ministry with Veronica and I to the Caribbean side of Costa Rica.  We helped a pastor friend and his family from Limon where it’s really hot!  We were able to strip and install new tile on the floor of their house, finished some construction projects at their church, and then held VBS at church for 3 days where it’s literally out in the middle of nowhere.  It was a beautiful experience and ministry, and our prayers are that we will visit that small church again with other groups, and be a blessing for this pastor, his family, and the community there that needs it so much!

In January we held one of our favorite activities with our youth group doing summer camp.  This year was extra special because it wasn’t just a camp for our teenagers in Los Guido, but also we were able to invite 15 teenagers from Casa De Pan (An orphanage that many of you have visited and is really dear to us).  Taking these teenagers from Casa De Pan was not in our plans, but it was God’s!  We talked to Andy our Score Director, and a couple other people who helped us to get the resources to bring these teenagers to camp too!  It was amazing to see these teenagers interact with our teenagers from Los Guido!  I can tell you that it was a great week and many new friendships were made during camp.  Veronica and I are so thankful to Brandon and Sammy Hoover, along with the Gap students who helped with many of the activities at camp.  Also, we’re thankful for Carol’s Mom, who is one of our teenagers from Los Guido.  She volunteered to cook the week of camp and was such a huge blessing!  We also had different people from our local church come to speak at different Bible workshops that we had throughout the entire week.  During that week one of our teenagers Joshua, made a decision to start serving the Lord.  He talked to both of us and said that he felt that God was calling him to do more, so we are really happy that Joshua finally stepped up and saw the need to serve God.  Please pray for him as it’s not been easy for him since camp.  Also, one of our Gap students who was also going through a tuff time has made a huge change in her life as well.   Both Veronica and I are so thankful to God for the wonderful changes we’ve seen take place!  Praise God!!

In the last couple of months, we’ve had a couple of groups that have come to work with us in some of the ministries that we work with here in CR.  We were so thankful that we were able to help by painting some classrooms in a school in Los Cuadros which is another school that we partner with.  They had been praying for 20 plus years for some classrooms to be painted that needed a lot of care.  Praise God for the help that we got from a group from Texas.

On one of the Saturdays that we went to Los Guido for ministry, as we arrived at the school, we noticed that there was a big fire on their property.  Praise God that in the group that was working with us that week was a firefighter named Mike, which gave me directions on what to do first hand to stop the fire from spreading to the school building.  We were able to protect the school from fire that day.  God is so good, and we know it was God’s plan for us to be there with this group at the right time and the right place.

Veronica and I are so happy with a new ministry that we’ve started last year which is teaching English for free to the Los Guido school students and their parents, as well as some others from the community.  We have a great group of about 15 adults and 30 children and youth that come every Saturday to learn English, and then learn about God.  We are so very thankful for the Gap students that are both helping us with the English classes and our youth group.  They’re doing an amazing job!!

It’s not easy for us to share this, but one of our supporters told us that they needed to reduce some of the support they send us every month which has put us in a difficult financial situation.  We need to raise $550 monthly in order to cover our basic payments which also includes our sons-Josue’s schooling which is $350 monthly or $3500 yearly, so please if you are interested in helping us in any way possible please let us know.  We are praying that God will provide what we need through some of you, and also bring new supporters our way.

We are always so very thankful for each and everyone of you for all your encouragement, prayers and financial support.  You are part of our ministry and family.  We love you all!

God bless you richly!!

Salvador, Veronica, Josue and Sofia Barrantes

Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus,

Veronica and I hope you all had a blessed Thanksgiving with family and friends.  Veronica and I know this is a busy time as you prepare for both church and family activities that will take place this Christmas season and are praying that God would bless each and every one of your families.                                                                                                               MINISTRY:                                                                                                                             Since our last newsletter we shared about Rueben {Choro} who has had a troubled past and have seen a huge change in him.  A month ago, he came to me and shared about some of his struggles asking for help.  Since then I’ve been getting together with him twice a week to listen, counsel and pray with him over the struggles he’s dealing with.  He’s been faithfully coming and we ask for continued prayer for him.

Recently we found out that other teenagers in our group are struggling with issues that many teenagers struggle with around the world that breaks Veronica and my heart! In 1 Peter 5:8 it says “Be alert and of sober mind.  Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.  Please pray for us for wisdom, guidance and for our youth to have open hearts to receive correction from the Word of God.

We praise God for one of our leaders named Daniel, who’s been a huge help for us in our ministry in Los Guido teaching the Word of God when I’m not able to be there and starting a small praise team after being encouraged by GAP students John and Courtney that led us last year.  He learned how to play the guitar and the drums by watching YouTube.

Also, we’ve seen changes in Hilary {Pila} since moving in with her father 3 months ago.  Now she desires to serve God.  She’s not the type of person who likes to get up in front of people so we’re so surprised and proud of her for taking the courage to stand up in front with Daniel to lead worship.

Pray for us because December 28th – January 4th we’re going to take our first mission team with Score to the Caribbean side of Costa Rica which is 4 hours away from San Jose to help some friends that our pastoring a church in that area doing construction projects, VBS, and food distribution to very poor families.  Veronica and I are looking forward to being a blessing for this pastor, his family and their church family.

January 14th – 18th we would appreciate your prayers as we take 30 of our youth to camp plus 10 staff members to help with food and special activities in camp.   Also, our pastor of our church and a few church members will be coming throughout the week to put on workshops about specific topics for our teenagers.                                                       FAMILY:                                                                                                                           Veronica and I are so proud of Josue and Sofia in all that they’re learning in school this year.  Josue is learning English and his favorite subject is math.  Also, he’s enjoying being the goalie on the school soccer team.  Sofia is learning some English and just had her first Christmas presentation at school singing in English and she’s completely potty trained.

Veronica and I have enjoyed having both children in school so it frees up time for more ministry both in Los Guido and working and repairing things around the house.  That’s been a real blessing for us!!

We want to thank each and everyone of you for being such a blessing for us throughout the year by sending messages of encouragement which really mean a lot to us, prayers and financial support.  Without you it would be impossible to do our ministry to the fullest, so we praise God for each and every one of you for being a part of our ministry team!!

Veronica and I wish you and your family a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year.

We love you,

Salvador, Veronica, Josue & Sofia

Dear Family & Friends,

Veronica and I apologize for not sending a newsletter since our last one.  We will work at keeping you more informed from here on out.  We’ve had a really busy ministry season both in Los Guido and with mission groups from the USA.  God is doing amazing things in both our ministry and family.
MINISTRY:                                                                                                                                   In April Veronica and Sofia were able to travel to the states to visit some of the churches and individuals that support our ministry, and share what is happening in our ministry.  One of the churches that Veronica visited, Mountain Top Community Church in Alabama, actually had their youth group here with me in Costa Rica doing ministry in Los Guido during the same time.  Amazing things happened during that week with some of our teenagers.  We want to share a story of one of our youth named Ruben (his nickname is Choro) who is one of the older teenagers in our youth group who was a very troubled young man.  We asked him several times to leave the youth meetings because of his bad behavior, but for some reason he kept coming back over and over again.  We always felt he came back because he knew something was missing in his life.  This last January we took our youth group to church camp, and after camp we saw something very different in Ruben.  You could see he was at peace, both in his actions and the way he talked to us and others, and now he wanted to obey the Lord.  Praise God!!!  While Mountain Top Community Church youth were doing VBS in Los Guido with me and our youth group, Ruben was actively involved all week helping us, inviting youth from his neighborhood to join in the activities and he told me loud and clear I know now what God wants from me, and that’s to serve God!  Those were some of the most amazing days for us, because we had prayed for him for years, praise the Lord there was a 360 degree change in his life!!  Friends, all those difficult times of discouragement that we went through for all those years was worth it if just one life is changed by the power of Jesus Christ!!  Praise God!!  Ruben is right now working as one of our leaders in our youth group.  Please be praying for him because it’s not easy, and we know that God has amazing plans for this young man’s life. During VBS with Mountain Top we had 3 wonderful days of activities for students and parents from the school and from the community with approximately 200 coming each day and many who were saved!!  Praise God!!!

We just got a new group of GAP students (Score Spanish Program), and this year we are going to start a new activity in the school in Los Guido on Saturday mornings, teaching English for free and are praying this will open more doors for us to share about God with all that come.  Please be praying for this project and for the GAP students that will be teaching these classes every Saturday.

We ask that you continue to pray for our youth group and the plans that we have through December.  Katty, one of our leaders in the youth group will be finishing high school in a couple of weeks, and God has placed on our hearts to try to help her go to college.  In order to do that, we are praying for those of you that have come on mission trips who have either gotten to know her, or delivered food to her home would consider sponsoring her so she can have the opportunity to go to college.  If any church or person feels led to do so, please contact us to know more about our idea of making this possible.  God Bless You!!
Many of you know that we have been saving money for the last couple of years in order to visit Veronica’s family in Argentina.  She had not seen them in 6 years.  This last December we got the amazing news that a family from Texas was sending us a love offering that was just enough for us to buy airline tickets so the whole family could make this trip.  We just returned so we want to thank this family for making this possible!  This was a huge blessing for our family to spend time together. What a blessing!!

When Veronica was in the states in April, Orland Park Church answered our prayers by paying for Sofia’s school tuition this school year, which blew our minds away with God’s blessings.  This was a huge answer to prayer!!

Three days after we came back from Argentina both Josue and Sofia went back to school!  Sofi is in Pre-K from 7:30 – 2:30. This was pretty hard on her and her Mommy the first couple of days, but now they’ve both adjusted to the new schedule.  She loves school and comes home every day with a new song to teach us.

Josue just started 2nd grade, with some changes in school in the academic area that we all have to get used to, but good changes including more Costa Rican subjects in the curriculum, it is a small school, but we’re really thankful to God because it’s a really good Christian school.  We are now praying for Josue’s tuition of $350 monthly which would be a miracle, but with God anything is possible!

We are really happy with the new church that we’re attending called El Camino-The Way.  It’s really close to our house and have gotten really involved in the different activities that they have when we’re not active in our ministry in Los Guido or with Score.  We’re very thankful to our pastor in how he gives flexibility with our ministry schedule.  The end of this month Veronica will be one of the speakers at the Women’s retreat at our church.  Please keep us in your prayers as more opportunities of ministry come that we are careful not to overdue so we can do everything to the best that God would have us do.

Thank you so very much for all of you that has been holding us up in prayer and financial support.  I don’t know if you all understand this, but you all are such a huge blessing and part of our ministry here.  Without your prayers and financial support, we would never be able to do all that God has put in our hands to do in the way of ministry here in Costa Rica.

We love you dearly and we’re so thankful to God that He has surrounded us with all of your love and support!!

God bless you richly!!

We love you so much and are praying for you all!!

Dear Friends and Family in Christ Jesus,

We would like to thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and financial support through all of this year.

This has been a tuff year, but at the same time a really good year full of blessings from our Lord and Savior!!

We have been able with your help to partner with a Christian school in Los Guido and accomplish many projects from painting the outside front and inside of the school, the school was blessed with different items like a TV for the school, sport items, and through VBS in July each student was provided a Bible, and also children in the neighborhood.  We were able to partner with a Day Care center in Los Guido, where with your help we were able to help them make a soccer field, bought hammocks for the babies, fixed their playground, provided TV’s for some of the classrooms, a CD player, a projector for the teachers to use, bought some chairs and tables for one of the classes, and with your help we were also able to paint their dining room.  This blessed and helped all the amazing teachers that work there to help all these children that are coming from dysfunctional homes to have a better opportunity in accessing a better education.  The principal at the school said “We believe that if we work hard and give these children a better education, that we’ll help them to have a life with bigger opportunities.”  Also with your amazing help we were able to provide some food to the families of our teenagers, school supplies, school shirts, and with your support we were able to have special activities for our teenagers.

This year has been a really hard year for Costa Rica with a bad hurricane, but even worse was a Tropical Storm that affected thousands of Costa Ricans.  Many of you were willing to give money for food and to buy items for families that lost everything here in Costa Rica, and Veronica and I are really thankful for all that you’ve done!!

Please continue to pray for us and our ministry here in Costa Rica, and always remember that all of you are such an important part of our ministry through your prayers and financial support!!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

We love you!!!

Salvador, Veronica, Josue & Sofia

Dear family in Christ,

So many things have happened these last couple of months here in Costa Rica, and I would like to share some of them with all of you.
MINISTRY:                                                                                                                               Last time that we sent our letter to all of you we were still trying to find a place to meet with our teenagers on Saturdays for our youth group, and also for our Bible study on Sunday mornings.  God answered our prayers!  Praise God!!  He provided the best place for us to get together at a Christian school in Los Guido called Escuela Cristiana Los Guido that opened their doors to us to use for our ministry.  We are renting a classroom to have our meetings there, and we can also use their gym to play games there with our teenagers.  Veronica and I are so thankful for Adriana who’s the principal of the school for the blessing she is for us and our ministry.  Now we’ll be partnering with this school, and will be working together not only with the children at the school, but also teaching the Bible to the parents of the children.
We are so very happy also, because we are also working with the day care center in Los Guido, and in 3 other communities in 3 other day cares.
God is so very good, and when He does things He makes it ever so perfect!!!!
In July we had the opportunity to have 2 weeks of VBS in Los Guido with 2 different churches that came from the USA.  Cibolo Creek Community Church from Texas, and Mountain Top Community church from Alabama.  Both Veronica and I are so thankful for these two churches, because both churches prepared really amazing stuff for the children of Los Guido to enjoy, play, and learn more about Jesus Christ!!!
Also we had other teams from the states that came and helped in different ways at the school in Los Guido with either painting the school, laying sod in the soccer field or supplying money to buy different things that the school needs.  Thank you to so many of you that helped us bless this amazing community that God is allowing us to work in.
Just one story from the many that we could share from this summer.  One of the teams that came with their little children raised money back at home doing different things to buy food for the families of Los Guido.  We had a little extra money left of what we normally ask teams to buy to put in a bag of food for one family, so with the extra money we decided to put items like cereal in the bags as well.  When we took the bags to the families one of the girls became so excited, and said I can’t believe that we got cereal!  We can’t afford to buy cereal so we hardly ever have it in our home!!
We are so thankful to all of you for helping us to keep working in this community and keep teaching them about God’s love and goodness.
FAMILY:                                                                                                                                   Our little Sofi just turn 2 years old!  How time passes so fast!!!  Josue is about to start first grade in September.  Please pray for him, and us because it’s going to be a hard transition from kindergarten to first grade being that the school he’s attending is a really demanding school.                                                                                                                                             Veronica and I want to thank our God for an amazing summer, and for how blessed we’ve been working with all the teams that came with Score this year.  We also are so very thankful ou so much to all of you who faithfully support us financially, and pray for us, and constantly encourage us to keep doing our ministry here in Costa Rica.  Without you we couldn’t do our ministry!!     God bless you all!
We love you,
Salvador, Veronica, Josue and Sofia

So that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God    Colossians 1:10

Dear Family and Friends,
Thank you so much to all of you that support our ministry and family here in Costa Rica. I hope that all of you know what a blessing you are not only to our family, but also to so many others around us that are being blessed through the financial support that you send us.
MINISTRY:                                                                                                                                    After spring break we started working hard and getting ready for all the mission teams that are coming this season. This year ahead of time Veronica and I started praying for each one that will be coming to do ministry, so that they can be a blessing for so many here in our country, but also that God will do His work in each one of their lives, and prayerfully that He will minister through us towards them.
We are so happy this year, because we’ve started partnering with a Day Care in Los Guido where we love to go visit and spend time with the children, and getting to know the amazing teachers that put their hearts out there every day not only in teaching school curriculum, but also teaching all those children about our Lord and Savior.
We are so very thankful also, because a couple of churches and schools from USA helped on some important projects that the Day Care had needs of. Like making a small soccer field by removing a tree and laying sod, getting televisions for some of the class rooms, buying some new tables and chairs for classes, and getting some items for the babies. Thank you so much to all of you that spent your time and money helping the Day Care in Los Guido. Please be praying because we just got a new contact to start visiting and working with 2 other new Day Cares in very poor areas as well. We are really excited to see what God is going to do in these new centers for children!
Our youth group and church are doing really good, but we still have problems in renting a place in Los Guido, because the place we usually rent from, rents out the building out to others leaving us struggling to find another place to hold our ministries. Last year Veronica and I started praying that God would provide for us a new place in Los Guido big enough to have our meetings (which aren’t many in that area) or that God would provide that money for us to be able to buy either a building or land where in the future we will be able to have a multipurpose center that would be able to be used as a church and to have our youth activities. Our dreams are that one day we would be able to host different activities in there like, teaching English to the youth and adults in the community, teaching the Moms to make things that they can sell and make money to help their families and, host camps for children and youth of the area and have the children from different schools come for a day retreat along with their teachers. A piece of land we were looking at it and so thought God had opened doors was shut today. Yet God knows where this future land or building will be in Los Guido. He has already blown our minds away when we received the amazing news about our first donation for the purchase of land!! We don’t even have to share with anyone the desires of our hearts, because our God is so awesome, and He knows all our dreams and desires. He knows our hearts, and how much we love the people of the Los Guido community.                                                             FAMILY:
Our family is doing well. Sofia is about to turn 2 years old, and is talking and is our sweet little princes. Josue is about to finish kindergarten. Please pray for Josue’s health. He’s been diagnosed last year with asthma
so he receives treatment every day, but lately he has been getting sick so often that the doctor says that his immune system needs to be built up, so we are now giving him a treatment to help with that as well, so please pray that this will help him.
Also, Veronica and I have gotten really sick this year, so please pray for us that even with the busy schedule that we can take care of ourselves to be healthy so we can accomplish everything that God has put in our hands to do.
We just want to finish this letter saying, “God is so good” as we see this day after day in our lives, in how we see His goodness!!
-Through the people that God surrounds us with, that care about us, praying for us, send us messages encouraging us to keep doing God’s work, people caring about our spiritual life and people that just are there to love us up.
-Through the beautiful family that He’s given us, which is a huge blessing from above that supports us big time.
-Through an amazing work team (Score International) and an amazing leader Andy Gordley who takes care of us, and helps us so much in helping us in our ministry and making it so much better.
-Through His mercy towards us, giving us a beautiful ministry where we can invest in the lives of people every day, and to teach them about how awesome our God is, and how truly good He is.
Thank you so very much for being there for us, praying and supporting us financially! You all are a part of what God is doing in so many lives here in Costa Rica.
With a thankful heart for all of you!!
God bless you
Salvador, Veronica, Josue and Sofia
